Director Maruthi on Tuesday said audiences have accepted Prabhas in a new genre as his latest film The Rajasaab falled under the ₹200-crore mark at the global box office ahead of the Sankranti holiday season .

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad , Maruthi said the team did not want to make a simple horror comedy , but instead mounted the film as a large-scale project with fantasy and psychological elements . “We made a new attempt. The audience is liking our efforts and the collections are huge,” he said.

Produced by T. G. Vishwaprasad under the banner of People Media Factory , The Rajasaab was released recently as a pan-India film . Maruthi expressed confidence that the film would register even bigger collections during the festive holidays .

The director admitted that some viewers initially found it difficult to understand the psychological concept of the film. “Some people may not grasp it easily on the first viewing, but many later messaged me saying the film is very good,” he said.

Maruthi revealed that Prabhas had anticipated the delayed acceptance . “He told me in advance that a new attempt would take time to reach the audience and asked me to remain calm,” he said, adding that scenes featuring Prabhas’ new get-up received widespread appreciation from fans and industry colleagues.

Calling The Rajasaab a technically challenging film , Maruthi said portraying hypnotism visually and executing scenes where Prabhas appears aged and moves in reverse required extensive effort. He said Prabhas actively participated in shaping key scenes by sharing his ideas.

Responding to social media trolling , Maruthi said criticism was inevitable. “If four people talk badly about the film, forty people go to theatres to watch it,” he said, noting that theatres are filling up even in small towns .

Reflecting on the experience, Maruthi said The Rajasaab helped him gain valuable exposure to visual effects and big-scale filmmaking . He added that he has not yet decided on his next project, but said working with Chiranjeevi would be a special opportunity if it materialises.
