
Thanjavur AIADMK Leader Ends Life, Appeals for Cadre Unity Under EPS
A 32-year-old AIADMK functionary allegedly died by suicide in Thiruppanandal in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district, leaving behind a video message in which he expressed anguish over the party's recent electoral setbacks and appealed for unity among its leaders and cadres.
The deceased, K A S Mahendran , served as the Joint Secretary of the AIADMK Thanjavur East Traders Wing . He is survived by his wife and their one-year-old child.
According to police, Mahendran died on Sunday after posting a self-recorded video on social media . In the video, he reportedly spoke about his disappointment over the AIADMK's successive electoral defeats and urged leaders and workers belonging to different factions of the party to set aside their differences and work together for its revival.
He appealed for party members to unite under the leadership of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and strengthen the organisation ahead of future political challenges.
Mahendran had been associated with the AIADMK at the grassroots level and was active in the party's traders' wing in the Thanjavur region. Though not a prominent state-level leader, he was known among local cadres for his involvement in organisational activities and his commitment to the party.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Government Hospital in Thiruppanandal for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway .
AIADMK leaders and cadres expressed shock over the incident. Palaniswami is expected to visit Thiruppanandal to pay his last respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family.
The incident has sparked discussion within political circles about the emotional investment of grassroots party workers in party affairs and the importance of support systems during periods of political uncertainty.
