The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is gearing up for the Dussehra festive rush by operating 7,000 special buses across the state to facilitate the movement of passengers travelling to their hometowns. The large-scale arrangement is aimed at meeting the expected surge in demand as thousands of people prepare to leave Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana to celebrate the festival with their families.

Of the total special services planned, 3,533 buses will be operated in the Karimnagar zone, making it the largest share of the additional services. The Hyderabad zone will have 2,155 special buses, while another 1,312 services will be deployed within the Greater Hyderabad limits. The transport corporation has made arrangements keeping in view the travel requirements of passengers heading towards different parts of Telangana as well as destinations in neighbouring states.

The special buses will be operated on October 9, 10, 16 and 17, covering the key travel periods before and around the Dussehra celebrations. With a significant number of passengers expected to return after the festival, TGSRTC will also operate additional services on October 25 and 26 to handle the reverse flow and reduce pressure on regular services.

The corporation has also revised fares for the special services in accordance with a government order. TGSRTC said the ticket prices for these additional buses may be increased by up to 1.5 times the regular fare. The revised fares, however, will apply only to the special services being operated to meet the seasonal demand.

Meanwhile, the corporation clarified that the Mahalakshmi scheme will continue to provide free bus travel to eligible women. TGSRTC Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy said the facility would remain available on Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express services, including special services.

With festive travel expected to intensify, TGSRTC has urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance and make use of advance booking facilities through the corporation’s official website. The transport body expects the additional fleet to ease congestion and ensure smoother travel during the Dussehra period.
