The Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) has earned national recognition for its innovative use of technology to improve electricity distribution, strengthen supply reliability and enhance consumer services. The power utility received the 14th Innovation with Impact Award in the discom category for its initiatives to improve the efficiency and performance of its distribution network.

The award was presented on October 14 in New Delhi during the 20th India Energy Summit organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC). TGNPDCL Company Secretary K. Venkatesham received the honour on behalf of the organisation. On Saturday, he presented the award to Chairman and Managing Director Karnati Varun Reddy at the company’s headquarters in Nakkalagutta, Hanumakonda. Directors V. Mohan Rao, V. Tirupati Reddy, T. Madhusudhan and C. Prabhakar also attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Varun Reddy said the company was increasingly adopting advanced technologies to make power distribution more efficient and dependable. The Real-Time Feeder Monitoring System (RTFMS) enables continuous monitoring of feeder performance, while Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)-based systems help track electricity loads and respond promptly to supply disruptions.

The company has also recorded growth in renewable energy capacity. Its installed renewable power capacity increased from 1,784 MW in 2024–25 to 2,126 MW in 2025–26. Rooftop solar capacity rose from 80.17 MW to 143.92 MW during the same period, registering growth of approximately 79.5 per cent. The company is encouraging solar power adoption and expanding rooftop solar installations.

Other technological initiatives include Fault Passage Indicators (FPIs), drone-based inspections, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), artificial intelligence-powered chatbots and digital grievance redressal systems. These tools help identify faults more quickly, restore electricity supply faster and make consumer services more accessible.

Varun Reddy said the company remained committed to providing uninterrupted power, responding swiftly to consumer complaints and expanding digital services. He described the award as recognition of the collective efforts of the organisation’s officers, engineers, employees and field-level staff in modernising electricity distribution.
