T’gana’s education model aims to set a national benchmark: Minister Bhatti Vikramarka

Telangana’s education system is being restructured to serve as a model for the entire country, said State Education Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, following a comprehensive review meeting with senior education officials at the Madhira camp office on Sunday.

He noted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is giving special focus to transforming the education sector, ensuring coordination between the Education and Finance Departments to implement reforms in a planned manner.

Free breakfast scheme and model schools

To promote child nutrition and attendance, the government is preparing to launch a free breakfast scheme for government school students from the next academic year.

Additionally, three model schools will be established in every mandal (administrative block) with upgraded infrastructure and teaching facilities. The Minister said these initiatives aim to create an equitable and technology-driven education system across Telangana.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar knowledge centres

To support rural youth preparing for competitive exams, the government has decided to set up Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Knowledge Centres in every Assembly constituency. These centres will include digital libraries, online coaching by experts, and comprehensive study material for aspirants, eliminating the need to travel to cities for preparation.

In Khammam district alone, five such centres are being fast-tracked for launch.

“Young India” integrated residential schools

Highlighting one of the government’s flagship projects, the Minister said that the upcoming “Young India Integrated Residential Schools” will be a game changer for Telangana’s education sector.

Designed to offer quality education and modern amenities to underprivileged and rural students, the project aims to establish around 100–105 residential schools across the state - one in each Assembly constituency.

The government has earmarked an estimated ₹20,000-₹21,000 crore for the project, covering infrastructure, staffing, and facilities. In the first phase, ₹4,000 crore has been allocated for 20 schools, followed by ₹11,600 crore for another 58 schools.

Each school will accommodate nearly 2,500 students, providing residential facilities, nutritious food, digital classrooms, and smart laboratories.

Modernising technical and higher education

To align education with changing industry needs, existing Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are being upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres, while polytechnic colleges will gradually evolve into engineering institutions.

The Minister also announced plans to provide midday meals in government junior colleges through CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) partnerships, and to make all government educational institutions energy self-sufficient by installing solar rooftop systems.

Minister Bhatti Vikramarka expressed confidence that these initiatives would strengthen the foundations of Telangana’s future through a robust and inclusive education system.
