T’gana districts win Jal Sanchay & Jan Bhagidari national awards

Telangana has made its mark in the national water conservation arena, with several of its districts receiving the prestigious ‘Jal Sanchay & Jan Bhagidari National Awards’ conferred by the Government of India, specifically through the Ministry of Jal Shakti. From the South India zone, Nalgonda district earned special recognition, while Adilabad and Mancherial districts also received national acknowledgment.

Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed his delight, calling the awards a proud moment for Telangana. The central government has also announced a cash prize of ₹2 crore for these districts. He highlighted that the awards are part of the government’s effort to promote water conservation and citizen participation through nationwide competition among states.

The awards recognize districts that excel in reviving water sources, improving rural ponds and wells, ensuring sustainable water security, and actively involving local communities in water management initiatives. Nalgonda, in particular, has been commended for its efficient irrigation practices, pond restoration projects, rainwater harvesting, and water storage initiatives carried out over the years with strong community involvement.

The minister emphasized that the success reflects the collaboration of citizens, local authorities, and voluntary organizations, underscoring the importance of collective action in rural development. By prioritizing water conservation and encouraging everyone to contribute, these districts have set an inspiring example.

The awards bring not just recognition to Nalgonda, Adilabad, and Mancherial, but also enhance Telangana’s reputation at the national level. The Jal Samridh initiative aims to foster public participation in water conservation and promote the creation of rainwater harvesting and other water-related infrastructure.

Minister Komatireddy congratulated the people of Nalgonda, government officials, NGOs, and all others who contributed to this achievement, stating that the award will serve as a source of inspiration for the district, the state, and the entire country.
