Terror Attack in J&K's Anantnag: Policeman Injured After Gunmen Open Fire at Busy Lal Chowk

A head constable was injured after suspected terrorists opened fire on a police party in Anantnag town of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, triggering a large-scale security operation to track down the attackers.

According to officials, the incident occurred at around 12.30 pm in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag, a busy part of the town. The police personnel were on duty when the attackers allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The injured head constable sustained gunshot injuries in the attack and was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for medical treatment. Officials said he was rushed to the hospital without delay, while further details about his condition were awaited.

Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched an extensive search operation to trace those responsible. Additional personnel were deployed around the locality, and surveillance was intensified to prevent the assailants from escaping.

The sudden burst of gunfire caused panic among local residents and commuters in the area before security personnel quickly secured the location. Authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and are examining all possible leads.

The incident comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and prevent militant activities in the Kashmir Valley. Officials said the operation to identify and apprehend the attackers is ongoing.
