Fresh unrest gripped Manipur’s Bishnupur district after protests over a recent bomb blast spiralled into violent clashes with security forces , leaving more than ten people injured and prompting authorities to impose strict prohibitory orders .

The violence broke out on Tuesday in the Thingungei area , where locals had gathered to protest the tragic blast in Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of two children . What began as an expression of grief and anger soon turned volatile, as unverified reports about the movement of “suspicious persons” allegedly carrying arms began circulating, sharply escalating tensions on the ground.

As rumours spread, a large crowd assembled and blocked a security team during the afternoon hours. According to police, the situation worsened when sections of the mob turned aggressive, stopping official vehicles and attempting to detain personnel . At least one vehicle was set on fire, and several others were damaged during the chaos.

Clashes soon extended to nearby Ningthoukhong , forcing security forces to intervene. Tear gas shells were fired to disperse the crowd, with officials stating that only minimum force was used to bring the situation under control. Over ten people suffered minor injuries in the confrontation.

In response to the unrest, additional forces were deployed, and a flag march was carried out to restore public confidence and maintain order. Police have so far arrested four individuals in connection with the violence and are working to identify others involved in arson, unlawful assembly, and obstruction of duty .

Amid the fragile situation, the district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita from 5 pm onwards, restricting public movement until further notice.

Authorities have strongly appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading rumours , warning that strict action will be taken against those found inciting violence or disrupting peace.

The incident once again underlines how quickly misinformation can inflame tensions , turning grief into unrest within hours.
