Telugu stars gain massive following in China

Once upon a time, during the Telugu Filmfare Awards, Megastar Chiranjeevi made a heartfelt observation about the limited global reach of Telugu cinema. He said, “We keep celebrating ourselves thinking our films are doing great, but when I went to the Goa Film Festival, I saw photos of legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Dharmendra, and from Tamil Nadu M.G. Prabhas became the first South Indian actor to have his wax statue displayed at Madame Tussauds in London, marking a proud moment in Telugu film history.

Then came RRR , a monumental period drama that turned into a global sensation. Not only did it storm the Indian box office, but its song Naatu Naatu went on to win two Oscars, bringing unprecedented international recognition to Telugu cinema. In Japan, RRR broke unimaginable box-office records, establishing a massive fan base for Telugu actors like Prabhas, Jr NTR, and Ram Charan.

Ironically, the same Megastar who once lamented Telugu cinema’s lack of global visibility now sees his own son, Ram Charan, being hailed on international platforms like The Celebs as the “Indian Brad Pitt.”

Now, Telugu stars are shining even brighter on the global stage. In the list of “Most Searched Celebrities” in China, Ram Charan and Prabhas hold the top two positions. Ram Charan leads the chart with blockbusters like RRR , Magadheera , Yevadu , and Rangasthalam , while Prabhas follows closely with his iconic performances in Baahubali , Baahubali 2 , Saaho , and Salaar .

This remarkable feat not only proves the growing box-office power of Telugu films but also highlights their soaring global reputation. If this trend continues, Telugu cinema seems well on its way to competing with Hollywood itself.
