Telangana’s ‘Mahila Varotsavalu’ to Drive Financial Inclusion and Rural Transformation

In a significant move aimed at strengthening women’s economic and social empowerment , the Telangana government will organise statewide “Mahila Varotsavalu” from May 25 to 31, with a series of programmes focused on entrepreneurship, livelihood generation, financial inclusion, and welfare outreach.

Announcing the initiative, Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka said the week-long celebrations are being organised under the government’s “Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika” framework to increase women’s participation in the rural economy and governance systems.

The celebrations will involve Self-Help Groups (SHGs), women entrepreneurs, adolescent girls, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities through programmes ranging from awareness campaigns and loan melas to infrastructure development and livelihood support initiatives.

According to the minister, the government is working to transform women’s groups into productive economic institutions rather than limiting them to savings collectives. As part of this effort, women are being linked to opportunities in micro-enterprises, poultry farming, agri-processing, renewable energy, and small-scale industries .

One of the major highlights of the celebrations will be the launch of a special incubator programme for women entrepreneurs by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad on May 29. The initiative is expected to provide mentorship, financial access, and business support for aspiring women-led startups and enterprises.

The celebrations will begin on May 25 with the inauguration of 0.5 MW solar power plants in districts including Vikarabad, Khammam, Peddapalli, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad. On the same day, the government will flag off 450 RTC buses operated by women’s self-help groups , showcasing Telangana’s push to expand women’s participation in public service sectors.

May 26 will be observed as Social Inclusion Day , during which officials will identify eligible women, elderly citizens, and persons with disabilities for enrolment into welfare programmes and SHGs.

The government will also lay foundation stones for women federation buildings, work sheds, and warehouses , while mandal-level loan melas will support livelihood ventures such as beekeeping, poultry farming, and bio-input resource centres.

The concluding days of the celebrations will feature health camps, bicycle distribution for teenage girls, literacy recognition programmes, and women’s safety awareness drives , alongside the distribution of welfare benefits including Indiramma sarees .

Calling the initiative a “prestigious programme,” Minister Seethakka urged officials and public representatives to ensure the celebrations create a lasting impact at the grassroots level and further strengthen Telangana’s women-led development model.
