Telangana’s education reset to tackle job crisis

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s education system, citing an alarming employment crisis among engineering graduates. According to recent surveys, nearly 90% of engineering students in Telangana remain unemployed even after completing their degrees, raising serious concerns about the quality and relevance of higher education.

The Chief Minister stressed the urgent need to align curricula with industry demands, particularly in emerging sectors like artificial intelligence, data science, green energy, and advanced manufacturing. He also emphasized improving practical training, research exposure, and internship opportunities to ensure students are “job-ready” rather than merely degree-holders.

Reddy highlighted that the disconnect between colleges and industries has worsened the situation, with many institutions failing to provide skill-based learning. The government is now considering structural reforms, including stricter monitoring of private engineering colleges, curriculum modernization in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), and stronger partnerships with IT and industrial hubs.

The proposed reforms aim not only to improve employment rates but also to restore confidence among students and parents who increasingly see engineering as a risky career choice. Reddy assured that Telangana will pioneer education-driven growth to meet future workforce needs.
