A 23-year-old woman police constable allegedly died by suicide in Telangana’s Warangal district after experiencing severe emotional distress related to issues surrounding her proposed marriage , police said on Friday.

According to the police, the constable, who was posted in the district , had initially planned to marry a distant relative, Rajender . However, she later decided to marry another man, Jabbarlal , as Rajender was working outside the state at the time. The change in her decision reportedly triggered tensions between the individuals involved.

Police officials said Rajender, upset over her decision to marry someone else, allegedly informed Jabbarlal that he had shared a close personal relationship with the woman in the past. Following this disclosure, Jabbarlal reportedly stopped responding to the constable’s phone calls for nearly two to three days , which added to her emotional distress .

Disturbed by the sudden breakdown in communication , the woman allegedly contacted Rajender and questioned him about his actions, police said. Investigators believe the series of events caused significant mental trauma to the constable.

On January 28 , the woman allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at her residence. She was rushed for medical assistance but succumbed the same day , police added. A post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday to ascertain the exact cause of death .

Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident. Statements from the individuals involved are being recorded, and all angles are being examined , officials said.

Senior police officials expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and said appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation .
