Telangana Weather: IMD Forecasts Extremely Heavy Rain, Flash Flood Risk

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe rainfall alert for several districts of Telangana, warning that a deep depression is likely to trigger extremely heavy to exceptionally heavy rainfall over the next 36 hours, particularly across the northern parts of the state. Authorities have cautioned that the intense spell could result in flash floods, inundation of low-lying areas, and disruptions to normal life.

According to the weather forecast, isolated locations in north Telangana may receive between 300 mm and 450 mm of rainfall during the period. Such rainfall is considered exceptionally high and could lead to overflowing streams, swollen rivers, and localized flooding, prompting officials to advise residents to remain vigilant.

The IMD has asked district administrations in the affected regions to stay on high alert and activate disaster preparedness measures. Emergency teams have been directed to closely monitor vulnerable areas, issue timely public advisories, and ensure a swift response if the situation worsens. Residents living in low-lying localities have been urged to follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Besides the northern districts, central, eastern, and western Telangana are also expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and overcast skies. In Hyderabad, the forecast indicates light to moderate rain with cloudy weather likely to persist through the day, potentially causing traffic congestion and localized waterlogging in some areas.

Meanwhile, south Telangana, including Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, and Nalgonda, is expected to receive only light rainfall, with weather conditions remaining comparatively less severe than in the northern districts.

With the southwest monsoon remaining active over the region, weather experts have advised people to stay away from streams, overflowing drains, and water bodies, avoid crossing flooded roads or causeways, and keep track of official weather bulletins. Authorities have also appealed to citizens to report emergencies promptly and cooperate with local administration as precautionary measures remain in place.
