Telangana water board files cases against 49 for illegal drain connections

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has registered cases against 49 individuals for allegedly making illegal drain connections in various parts of the city. Officials said the move is part of a wider crackdown on unauthorized sewage practices that are polluting water bodies and damaging civic infrastructure.

The inspections, carried out by HMWSSB enforcement teams, revealed that several households and commercial establishments had connected their wastewater lines directly into stormwater drains, bypassing the authorized sewage network. Such practices, officials noted, lead to flooding during rains, contamination of lakes, and severe sanitation issues for nearby residents.

The board has also urged citizens to check their drainage connections and ensure they are routed properly through the approved sewer lines.

The HMWSSB said it will continue intensified inspections across Hyderabad, aiming to curb illegal practices and improve the city’s water and sanitation systems.
