
Telangana Unveils Mega High Court Project, Set to Be India’s Largest
Telangana marked a major milestone in its judicial history with the foundation stone being laid for the ‘High Court Zone-II’ complex at Budwel, Rajendranagar, on Sunday. The ceremony was led by Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other senior judges, including Justices P. S. Narasimha, Ujjal Bhuyan, S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti, Alok Aradhe , and Apreesh Kumar Singh .
Spread across 100 acres , the project is set to become the largest judicial complex in India , designed to meet requirements for the next century. The facility will include modern court halls, digital libraries, and advanced IT infrastructure , with completion targeted by December 2027 . A second phase will add residential quarters for judges.
Justice Surya Kant stressed that strong infrastructure is vital for faster case disposal and access to justice , and said the project would boost digitalisation of the judiciary .
Calling it a “rare and proud moment” , the Chief Minister said, “Laying the foundation for a High Court is laying the foundation of democracy.” He described courts as sacred institutions delivering justice beyond caste and religion , and said the complex would serve as a national model .
Revanth Reddy said the Congress government prioritised the project soon after assuming office. He noted Zone-I works are underway and Zone-II is being expedited , while reaffirming the December 2027 deadline. Emphasising institutional balance, he said the government would respect judicial verdicts and ensure top infrastructure. He added that 49 new courts and residential facilities are being developed across the State, and that ₹2,583 crore has been sanctioned.
Later in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister warned that youth drifting away from sports is a serious national concern . Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 74th Bholanath Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship 2026 at Gachibowli Stadium , he urged introspection on declining participation.
He recalled Hyderabad’s past as the “Nursery of Indian Football” , noting that seven players in the 1956 Olympic team were from the city. Highlighting India’s Olympic performance, he said a country of 1.4 billion people failing to win a gold medal needs serious reflection.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over drug abuse among youth , stating even Punjab faces the issue. To promote sports, he highlighted the establishment of the “Young India Sports University” and assured full government support to athletes.
He also urged police to tackle cybercrime and narcotics with the same spirit as sports. The tournament, held from March 25 to April 5 , concluded with the Chief Minister playing football and presenting trophies . Minister Vakiti Srihari , DGP Shivadhar Reddy , and officials attended.
