Telangana Unveils Ambitious AI Vision with University, Hubs and Global Partnerships

Telangana is rapidly emerging as a global hub for Artificial Intelligence , with IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu stating at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi that the state is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-driven innovation . Addressing a roundtable organised by the US-India Business Council , he invited American technology firms and investors to partner in Telangana’s growth story. He noted that world-class infrastructure , a strong technology ecosystem , progressive policies, and a skilled workforce have made the state an attractive destination for global investments. Stable governance and forward-looking strategies have created a strong foundation for AI research, development, and deployment, while public-private partnerships are enabling the adoption of AI-based systems for real-time governance and improved citizen services.

The minister highlighted that Telangana has built specialised innovation centres in healthcare , agriculture , education , and urban development , enabling technology-led improvements in productivity and public service delivery. Initiatives such as the Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) are helping startups, researchers, and developers access AI-ready datasets to accelerate innovation and data-driven policymaking. In the upcoming budget, the state plans to prioritise an AI University , expansion of AI hubs , and large-scale skill development programmes to build a future-ready talent pool and ensure inclusive participation in the digital economy.

Emphasising responsible growth, Sridhar Babu said safety standards are not barriers but the foundation of innovation, noting that growth without safeguards can erode public trust. Telangana is working to embed ethical frameworks, transparency, and accountability into AI deployment. Flagship initiatives such as AIKAM , AI City , and Bharat Future City aim to integrate sustainability, advanced digital infrastructure, and citizen-centric governance into next-generation urban development.

On the sidelines of the summit, the minister also held discussions with Indonesia’s Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria , on establishing a Hyderabad–Jakarta Technology Skills Development Corridor. The proposed initiative is expected to enable talent exchange, strengthen digital skills ecosystems, and deepen collaboration between startup and innovation networks in both regions. Aligning with India’s broader digital ambitions, Telangana aims to build a sustainable, ethical, and globally connected AI ecosystem that drives economic growth, strengthens governance, and creates opportunities for future generations.
