Telangana Tourism Initiative Brings Adivasis to Hyderabad for Urban Exposure
In a unique outreach initiative, the Telangana Tourism Department has begun taking Adivasis from remote regions on exposure visits to Hyderabad, offering them a firsthand experience of urban life and infrastructure.
Launched by Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, the ‘ Adivasi Tourism Exposure Programme ’ recently facilitated a visit for around 250 tribal residents from Utnoor mandal in Adilabad district. The group travelled in air-conditioned buses flagged off from Gondu Gudem village.
During their two-day visit, the participants toured prominent city landmarks, including the iconic Charminar, Nehru Zoological Park, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and the historic Taramati Baradari cultural complex.
Officials said the programme aims to broaden perspectives among tribal communities, many of whom have had limited exposure to urban environments. The initiative also seeks to build confidence and inspire aspirations by introducing participants to modern facilities and lifestyles.
The minister noted that the programme fulfills a promise made during his visit to a remote village in Adilabad, where he found that only a handful of residents had ever visited Hyderabad. Participants expressed excitement at seeing the city’s landmarks, with several describing the visit as a long-awaited opportunity.
The beneficiaries were selected through the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), and more such visits are expected to be organised in the coming days as part of the ongoing initiative.
