Telangana to Launch Statewide Anti-Drug Pledge in Schools From June 12
In a major awareness initiative aimed at protecting students from substance abuse, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has invited Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to participate in a statewide anti-drug pledge programme that will be conducted in schools on June 12 , the day educational institutions reopen after the summer vacation.
The programme is being planned as one of the Telangana government’s largest coordinated school outreach campaigns, with students across the state expected to take a collective pledge to stay away from tobacco, alcohol and narcotic substances . Officials said the initiative is intended to promote safer and drug-free educational environments while encouraging social responsibility among students and families.
According to an official release, the Chief Minister informed the Governor that the pledge is designed to inculcate a sense of collective responsibility among students, teachers, parents and educational institutions to ensure campuses remain free from the growing menace of drugs and addiction. The campaign is also expected to focus on awareness, prevention and early intervention among school-going children.
The initiative will be jointly implemented by the School Education Department , Telangana Police and the state’s anti-narcotics enforcement unit, the EAGLE Force (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) . The involvement of law enforcement agencies highlights the government’s attempt to combine educational outreach with public health and anti-drug enforcement measures.
Sources indicate that the anti-drug campaign gained momentum following earlier discussions between the Governor and the state government on the need to strengthen awareness programmes in schools and colleges. Educational institutions are also likely to be encouraged to organise awareness drives and maintain vigilance to prevent students from falling prey to substance abuse.
Alongside the anti-drug initiative, the state government will also distribute student welfare kits in government schools as part of the school reopening programme. The kits will include uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, school bags, sportswear and other essential items aimed at supporting students from economically weaker sections.
The June 12 programme comes amid the Telangana government’s broader push to strengthen the public education system through welfare measures, infrastructure upgrades and student-focused reforms. By combining educational support with behavioural awareness campaigns, the government hopes to create a healthier and safer environment for children across the state.
