The Telangana government has decided to install a statue of the late legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam at Ravindra Bharati, one of Hyderabad’s prominent cultural centres. The move has been widely welcomed as a tribute to the singer’s immense contribution to Indian music and cinema over several decades.

State Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao visited Ravindra Bharati on Thursday to inspect the site and oversee preparations for the statue installation. He was accompanied by senior actor and Balasubrahmanyam’s brother-in-law, ‘Subhalekha’ Sudhakar. During the visit, several suggestions regarding the arrangement, placement, and presentation of the statue were made by the minister, according to official sources.

Born as Sripati Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, SPB rose to fame for his melodious voice and versatility, singing thousands of songs across multiple Indian languages. His contributions to the music and film industry earned him numerous awards, including several National Film Awards and prestigious honours.

Balasubrahmanyam passed away in 2020 due to complications related to COVID-19 and other health issues, leaving a deep void in the world of Indian music. His songs continue to resonate with fans across generations, making him one of the most beloved figures in Indian entertainment history.

The Telangana government’s decision to install his statue at Ravindra Bharati reflects a continued effort to celebrate cultural icons and preserve their legacy for the public. While the plans for the installation have been finalized, the official date for unveiling the statue has not yet been announced.

Fans, artists, and cultural enthusiasts have expressed their appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing that the statue will serve as a lasting reminder of Balasubrahmanyam’s artistic achievements. Once completed, it is expected to become a key attraction for visitors at Ravindra Bharati, inspiring music lovers and promoting cultural awareness in the region.

The project underlines Telangana’s commitment to honouring legends who have shaped India’s cultural landscape, ensuring that their contributions remain celebrated for generations to come.
