Telangana to Hold Special Voter Registration Camps on October 15, 16
Telangana will organise special voter registration camps across all polling stations on October 15 and 16 to help eligible citizens enrol in the electoral rolls and enable those whose names were omitted to reclaim their voting rights. Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy has directed district election officials to make the necessary arrangements as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Applications submitted during the two-day exercise will be verified under the prescribed rules, with eligible names considered for inclusion in the final electoral rolls scheduled to be published on November 9.
The CEO instructed district authorities to coordinate with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and other election personnel to ensure that no eligible voter is left out. The exercise also aims to prevent ineligible names from remaining on the electoral rolls.
Citizens whose names are missing from the current electoral rolls and young people registering to vote for the first time can apply through Form 6 at the special camps. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) must be available at every polling station to assist applicants. Representatives of recognised political parties, known as Booth Level Agents (BLAs), have also been asked to participate in the exercise. District officials must publicise the camps to maximise public participation.
BLOs have been instructed to compare previous electoral rolls with the current lists and identify voters whose names no longer appear. They must prepare separate lists and conduct household visits to verify the circumstances of the affected individuals. Eligible voters should receive assistance with the registration process, while field visits must also identify first-time voters and other citizens who have recently become eligible.
Details gathered during field verification must be shared with representatives of recognised political parties. BLOs must submit completed Form 6 applications and verification reports to the respective EROs, who will examine them under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. Polling station-wise lists will subsequently be shared with party representatives to help identify eligible citizens missing from the rolls.
Officials have been asked to conduct additional camps, wherever necessary, for homeless people, residents of night shelters, labour colonies and disadvantaged communities. Awareness programmes will also be organised with educational institutions and other organisations.
The CEO directed district authorities to publicise the initiative through photographs, videos and social media updates, stressing that coordinated efforts are essential to ensure every eligible citizen gets an opportunity to register before the November 9 final roll publication.
