For thousands of families across Telangana, a long-cherished dream is about to come true. The state government is gearing up to distribute over one lakh homes by the end of March under its flagship Indiramma Housing Scheme , marking a significant leap in its affordable housing mission .

Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced in the Assembly that nearly 1.12 lakh houses are nearing completion and will be handed over to beneficiaries by March 31. The government plans to celebrate the milestone with synchronized housewarming ceremonies across the state, symbolizing a new beginning for families moving into secure living conditions .

The initiative reflects the broader vision of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy , who aims to steadily bridge Telangana’s housing gap. Building on this momentum, the government has set a target to complete another one lakh homes by June, while preparing to roll out the second phase of the scheme in April to expand coverage further.

In its first phase, the scheme sanctioned around 4.5 lakh houses statewide, with a special focus on marginalized communities. Thousands of homes have been earmarked for tribal beneficiaries , including Chenchu families in remote ITDA regions, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive development .

Efforts are also underway to revive incomplete housing projects initiated during the previous BRS regime , many of which were stalled due to fund shortages . The government has indicated that fresh funding will be allocated to ensure these homes are completed and delivered.

To ensure fairness, authorities have introduced a transparent selection process . Beneficiaries are identified through village-level committees, with final approvals routed through district collectors and ministers. This multi-layered system is designed to ensure that genuine beneficiaries receive priority.

Urban housing is another key focus. Within the GHMC limits , several locations have been identified for constructing housing clusters, with plans to extend this model to other towns while keeping beneficiaries close to their livelihoods.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka stated that nearly ₹22,500 crore is being invested to build these homes, dismissing opposition claims of budget cuts and emphasizing full transparency in implementation.

Beyond welfare, the programme is also boosting economic activity by generating jobs and strengthening local construction ecosystems, turning the housing push into a transformative development effort for Telangana.
