Telangana to Expand Robotic Surgery Services in Government Hospitals

Telangana is planning a major expansion of advanced robotic surgery services in government hospitals, with the aim of making cutting-edge treatment accessible to the public at affordable or no cost, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said.

The minister said the government was focusing on strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and bringing the latest medical technologies to government institutions. Around 90 per cent of surgeries are being provided free of cost under the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme, he added.

Rajanarsimha made the remarks after inaugurating a state-level multi-speciality robotic surgery workshop at Dr Marri Channa Reddy TIMS Hospital in Sanathnagar. He inspected robotic surgical equipment and related infrastructure and held discussions with specialists on technological advances and the expansion of robotic procedures.

The minister said the government was strengthening medical colleges and training doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in advanced skills. Under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, steps were being taken to introduce robotic surgery facilities at medical colleges and government general hospitals within the next six months.

He said Telangana was utilising the expertise of renowned robotic surgery specialist Dr Sudhir Srivastava. NIMS Hospital had already completed 1,000 robotic surgeries in a relatively short period, he added.

Robotic surgery services will be expanded to MNJ Cancer Hospital, TIMS, the new Osmania Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Niloufer Hospital and Warangal Super Speciality Hospital, besides government general hospitals in district headquarters.

Rajanarsimha said the new TIMS and Osmania Hospital projects, once completed, would add more than 40,000 beds to the state's healthcare capacity. Under the medical tourism policy, TIMS will have 100 beds for international patients.

The state is also implementing cancer-care and trauma-care policies. With 102 dialysis centres currently operational, another 79 centres are being established.

The minister said Telangana was working to emerge as a hub for advanced robotic surgery, combining specialised expertise, modern technology and accessible public healthcare.
