Telangana to digitally record all Waqf property details: Minister Azharuddin
Telangana government is giving top priority to protecting Waqf properties across the state, said Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin. Speaking at a media briefing, he highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure transparency and safeguard these community assets.
The minister announced that the state has decided to register complete details of all Waqf properties online. Currently, Telangana has a total of 63,180 acres of Waqf land, but only about 17,000 acres have been digitized and are available in official records. The details of roughly 46,000 acres are yet to be uploaded.
To accelerate the process, the government has extended a three-month window for uploading pending data to the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) portal and plans to relaunch the portal immediately. The state is fully complying with central government directives mandating online registration of Waqf assets.
The digitization process will include comprehensive information such as land location, size, current use, and status. Minister Azharuddin emphasized that once the system is operational, it will help prevent illegal encroachments and resolve disputes more efficiently.
Coordinated efforts by the Waqf Board, Revenue Department, and local authorities are underway to collect and digitize all necessary data. The public will also be able to access these details, enhancing transparency.
“The government’s goal is to ensure that Waqf properties are effectively used for minority welfare,” the minister said. He added that once registration is complete, it will facilitate better management, development, and revenue generation from these assets.
