Telangana to Begin Special Electoral Roll Revision From June 15
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy on Saturday announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state will commence from June 15 . Addressing the media, he said the process would be completed within three to four months in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission.
According to the schedule announced by Sudharshan Reddy, preparation of the preliminary electoral rolls will be undertaken from June 15 to 24 . This will be followed by a statewide door-to-door verification drive from June 25 to July 24 .
Around 35,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will participate in the exercise. They will visit every household, distribute enumeration forms, and later collect the filled forms from voters.
Sudharshan Reddy said the draft electoral rolls would be published on July 31 , while claims and objections would be accepted until August 30 . The final electoral rolls will be released on October 1 .
He recalled that the Special Intensive Revision process was last conducted in the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2002 . The primary objective of the exercise is to rectify errors in the existing voter lists and address complaints raised by political parties, he said.
“ No eligible citizen should be left out of the voter list, and no ineligible person should remain on it ,” Sudharshan Reddy said, describing this as the core objective of the SIR process.
He further stated that polling stations would also be reorganised after the publication of the draft electoral rolls. At present, Telangana has around 35,000 polling stations and approximately 3.40 crore voters , he said.
Sudharshan Reddy said meetings had already been held three times with political parties. All parties were requested to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) , who would assist BLOs in voter identification and household verification. Several political parties have already appointed BLAs, he added.
Responding to the Congress party’s demand to extend the SIR process for one-and-a-half to two years, Sudharshan Reddy said the exercise would be completed within the timeline prescribed by the Election Commission rules, though additional time could be sought if necessary.
