Telangana Targets Global Leadership in Engineering Innovation: D Sridhar Babu

The government of Telangana has intensified its efforts to transform the state into a global engineering and innovation hub, with a strong focus on high-precision manufacturing and advanced industrial capabilities. This strategic push gained momentum with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art lean manufacturing facility by Baker Hughes in Siddipet district.

The facility, established at the Azad Centre of Excellence and Innovation in the TGIIC Industrial Park at Tuniki Bollaram, was inaugurated by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu. Spread over 7,600 square metres, the unit will manufacture high-precision components for the company’s Industrial and Energy Technology (IET) division and is expected to generate employment for around 230 skilled professionals. The project represents a major investment and reflects growing industrial confidence in the state.

Highlighting the broader vision, the minister said Telangana is taking calibrated steps to evolve beyond a traditional manufacturing base into a global centre for engineering innovation . He noted that the state is developing dedicated industrial parks for precision engineering industries to reinforce the “Made in Telangana” brand in global markets. The move is expected to boost exports , enhance technology adoption, and strengthen supply chains .

The presence of multinational companies choosing Hyderabad for their “Make in India” initiatives reflects Telangana’s rising stature as a preferred manufacturing hub . The state currently hosts more than 1,500 MSMEs, many engaged in high-precision production, contributing to a rapidly expanding ecosystem . This growth is supported by strong infrastructure , a skilled workforce , and investor-friendly policies .

Officials also highlighted that Telangana’s precision engineering sector has witnessed steady growth, driven by rising global demand and increasing participation of global firms. The expansion of such facilities is expected to accelerate economic growth , create employment , and promote sustainability through efficient manufacturing processes.

The minister stressed the importance of investing in advanced technologies amid evolving geopolitical conditions, noting that strengthening domestic capabilities is crucial for both national security and long-term development . He added that continued focus on automation , digitalisation , and research will further enhance the state’s competitive edge.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Sridhar Babu assured continued support and incentives to attract more investments . With global players expanding operations and new facilities coming online, Telangana is steadily positioning itself as a key destination for global manufacturing and engineering excellence.

According to Baker Hughes, which operates in more than 120 countries across energy and industrial sectors, its investment in Telangana marks a significant step in strengthening the state’s global industrial presence and long-term growth trajectory.
