Telangana Speeds Up Media Accreditation, Orders District Committees
The Telangana government has initiated steps to expedite the issuance of accreditation cards for journalists , with Information & Public Relations ( I&PR ) Special Commissioner C.H. Priyanka directed district officials to fast-track the process. Speaking at a workshop at the Telangana Media Academy , she instructed authorities to constitute district-level accreditation committees within one week in coordination with district collectors and representatives from print, electronic, and digital media. These committees will verify applications and ensure a fair, accountable, and time-bound procedure.
The Commissioner stressed that the process must strictly follow the Telangana Media Accreditation Rules-2025 , introduced to modernize media recognition and enhance procedural clarity. She emphasized transparency at every stage, including application scrutiny, approvals, registration number allocation, and online downloading of cards, warning that delays would undermine the reforms. Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy urged District Public Relations Officers ( DPROs ) to issue accreditation strictly according to government norms and ensure only eligible working journalists benefit.
Under the revised framework, accreditation cards are generally valid for two years , with eligibility norms covering circulation benchmarks for print publications, consistency requirements for periodicals, and operational thresholds for digital platforms. The reforms also promote inclusivity by encouraging women journalists and expanding opportunities for grassroots media professionals. Accreditation serves as official recognition, enabling access to government briefings, official events, and verified information channels while strengthening accountability in the media ecosystem. Eligible journalists may apply through the official portal, and a dedicated helpline has been provided to assist applicants, as authorities aim to make the system more efficient, inclusive, and transparent.
