Telangana Speaker Controversy: Revanth Reddy Orders Probe, Promises Legal Action

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered a comprehensive probe into the incidents that allegedly disrupted the opening day of the Assembly’s monsoon session, directing authorities to register criminal cases against those found responsible and punish them under the law.

Responding to a prolonged discussion in the Assembly on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy said the government would investigate all those allegedly involved in the incidents of September 6 and 7. He said the House had strongly condemned the alleged abusive remarks made against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, as well as claims that an area where Dalits had walked was later subjected to a “purification” exercise.

The Chief Minister said the entire Assembly had stood firmly with the Speaker and urged him not to be emotionally affected by the incident. He alleged that some individuals, allegedly acting at the behest of others, had attacked officials and police personnel while also making objectionable comments against the Speaker and his mother. Revanth said such conduct amounted to an attack on the dignity of a constitutional institution.

He described the alleged incidents as part of a planned conspiracy, arguing that insulting the Speaker inside the Assembly was particularly serious in a democratic system. He also criticised the alleged “purification” of a place after Dalits had walked there, calling it a reflection of discriminatory and divisive attitudes.

Revanth Reddy said Congress workers and Dalit leaders had protested near K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse on September 8 over the alleged remarks against the Speaker. He said allegations that BRS supporters later conducted a purification ritual at the location would also be investigated.

The Chief Minister further alleged that a September 6 meeting of BRS legislators and MLCs at KCR’s farmhouse was linked to plans to disrupt Assembly proceedings. He claimed the opposition feared a detailed debate on the previous BRS government’s tenure would expose facts about its governance.

Revanth urged BRS leaders to apologise and reconsider their approach, warning that continued arrogance could have political consequences. He said the government would act firmly against allegations of untouchability and discrimination under the BNS and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar will supervise the investigation.

Separately, Congress MP Mallu Ravi filed a police complaint against BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, alleging that KTR made abusive and objectionable remarks against Revanth Reddy. Ravi sought criminal action under Sections 356 and 352 of the BNS, saying the comments crossed the limits of political criticism.
