Telangana Shuffles 47 Municipal Commissioners Ahead of Civic Polls
Ahead of the upcoming municipal general elections in Telangana, the State government has ordered a major reshuffle in the Municipal Administration Department , transferring 47 municipal commissioners and officials across the State. The transfers were issued through G.O. Rt. No. 87 , with the government stating that the move was aimed at ensuring transparency , neutrality and impartial administration in line with Election Commission guidelines . Officials serving in their native districts and those continuing in the same place for a long duration were shifted on priority as part of the exercise.
According to the orders issued by the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA) , all transferred officers have been directed to assume charge immediately in their new postings and submit joining reports without delay. The government has issued a clear warning that any negligence or delay in joining duty will invite strict disciplinary action . The reshuffle includes Special Grade , Grade-I , Grade-II and Grade-III municipal commissioners, besides officers working in allied urban wings. Key municipalities including Adilabad, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Vikarabad and Zaheerabad will get new commissioners, while several officials have also been posted to the GHMC , MEPMA offices and the State Secretariat as per administrative requirements.
Along with transfers, the government has also included promotions and upgraded responsibilities for eligible personnel. Officials serving as sanitary inspectors , managers , and other categories have been elevated and posted as municipal commissioners, while senior Special Grade and Selection Grade officers have been assigned crucial postings based on seniority . The reshuffle has come at a time when election-related groundwork is accelerating, with the Telangana government recently finalising reservations for chairperson and ward-level posts covering 121 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations , which is expected to pave the way for the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) to announce the election schedule shortly.
With voter list preparation and logistical arrangements underway, municipal polls are expected to be held in early February , while the election notification is likely to be issued in the January 24–27 window , as per reports. Officials said the transfers were carried out to ensure the election process is conducted in a fair and unbiased manner , without administrative influence, across urban local bodies in the State.
