Telangana Showcases 4-Way Waste Segregation Model at National Review Meet

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka participated in the national review meeting on Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0 held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, where states presented their progress in urban sanitation and scientific waste management.

The two-day conference, chaired by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar , has brought together urban development ministers and senior officials from across the country to review the implementation of cleanliness and solid waste management programmes in cities and towns.

The Centre is expected to assess key areas including door-to-door waste collection , scientific processing of municipal waste, removal of legacy garbage dumps, waste-to-energy initiatives and implementation of new solid waste management regulations through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. The meeting is also serving as a platform for states to share innovative sanitation practices and successful urban management strategies.

Representing Telangana, Bhatti Vikramarka is showcasing several initiatives being implemented by the state government to modernise urban sanitation systems. Among the major reforms highlighted are the 4-way source segregation model , expansion of decentralized waste processing units and the use of electric Swachh auto tippers for garbage collection in urban local bodies.

The Deputy Chief Minister is also expected to explain Telangana’s efforts to eliminate long-standing dump yards through bio-mining technology and remove garbage vulnerable points in cities. Officials said the state has been strengthening recycling infrastructure through RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centres and dedicated e-waste collection mechanisms to encourage sustainable waste disposal practices.

Another major initiative likely to be presented at the conference is Telangana’s proposed Eco Town model , inspired by Japan’s Kitakyushu framework , which focuses on environmentally sustainable urban development and circular economy practices.

The Telangana government is aligning these initiatives with its broader Vision–2047 roadmap aimed at building cleaner, greener and more sustainable urban centres across the state.

Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu , Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Srinivas Katikithala , senior official Roopa Mishra , along with ministers and senior bureaucrats from several states, attended the inaugural session of the national review meeting.
