Telangana Sets August 30 Deadline for Gurukul School Inspections

The Telangana Government has initiated a comprehensive audit of BC Welfare Gurukul institutions across the state, directing officials to complete inspections by August 30 to ensure high standards of education, improved infrastructure, effective administration, and a safe residential environment for students.

Reviewing the functioning of Gurukul institutions during a video conference with Regional Coordinating Officers (RCOs), BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the government is committed to providing quality education, improved residential facilities, and holistic development opportunities for students belonging to Backward Classes. He stressed that inspections should focus not only on administrative compliance but also on the overall well-being and academic progress of students.

The minister instructed every RCO to spend three days every week on field visits and inspect at least six Gurukul institutions, while ensuring effective coordination between the society headquarters, district administration, and school authorities. He said regular monitoring would help identify deficiencies early and improve institutional performance.

To address infrastructure gaps, Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to expedite land acquisition for institutions functioning from rented premises and facilitate the construction of permanent campuses within their respective constituencies. Until then, he ordered that 6% of the rent allocated for leased buildings be utilized exclusively for repair and maintenance works.

Highlighting the need for sustainable campus management, the minister instructed schools to implement rainwater harvesting systems and respond promptly to complaints and suggestions from parents. He also urged institutions to encourage students to participate in sports, arts, cultural activities, and personality development programmes, stating that the government would provide special recognition and encouragement to outstanding performers.

The minister placed special emphasis on mental health, directing schools to organize awareness sessions with psychologists and counsellors to support students' emotional well-being. He also ordered strict monitoring of kitchen hygiene, food quality, and sanitation to prevent any food poisoning incidents during the current academic year.

Warning against negligence, Ponnam Prabhakar announced that he, along with the Commissioner and Secretary, would conduct surprise inspections of at least 15 Gurukul institutions every month. He further assured that special efforts would be made to construct a permanent campus for the Moosi Gurukul Institution and encouraged schools to undertake large-scale plantation drives, with students taking responsibility for nurturing the saplings as part of environmental conservation initiatives.
