Telangana sees spike in ACB cases in 2025

Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a total of 199 cases in 2025, leading to the arrest of 273 individuals, according to a senior official. This averages to roughly one case every two days throughout the year.

Among these, 157 cases involved bribery, either giving or taking bribes, resulting in 224 arrests, of which 176 were government employees. Additionally, 15 cases pertained to disproportionate assets held by government officials, and 26 cases involved other forms of government misconduct or irregularities. The ACB identified assets worth over ₹96 crore in these investigations.

In bribery-related “trap” cases, the ACB seized ₹57.17 lakh, of which ₹35.89 lakh was returned to the complainants. In the disproportionate assets cases, the bureau discovered assets worth more than ₹96 crore.

The ACB also filed charge sheets against 115 corrupt officials after obtaining government sanction. Furthermore, it conducted 26 routine investigations and 54 surprise inspections at locations such as sub-registrar offices, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) checkpoints, and welfare hostels.

ACB Director General Charu Sinha emphasized that these measures reflect the bureau’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and strengthen oversight mechanisms across the state.

For comparison, in 2024, 152 cases were registered and 223 arrests made, while in 2022, under the BRS government, 105 cases were recorded. The rising number of cases in 2025 has raised concerns about increasing corruption within government systems.
