Telangana schedules voter list revision ahead of Panchayat elections
Telangana is gearing up for upcoming Panchayat elections, and the State Election Commission (SEC) has announced a schedule for revising and republishing voter lists. The move aims to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral process.
From November 20 to 23, voters in villages and wards will have the opportunity to check and correct errors in the electoral rolls:
• November 20: Identify and correct errors in ward and village mappings.
• November 22: Address objections submitted by voters and resolve discrepancies.
• November 23: Publish the final voter list along with updated polling station details.
The SEC has directed district Panchayat officials to manually incorporate all changes and send the updated lists to the Election Commission on the same day. The Commission emphasized that these steps are crucial for conducting error-free and transparent Panchayat elections.
Following the state cabinet’s decision to hold elections between December 1 and 9, during the People’s Governance Week, the Panchayati Raj Department and the Election Commission are closely monitoring the process. In a recent cabinet meeting, officials highlighted the urgency of holding local elections to avoid delays in receiving nearly ₹3,000 crore in funds from the 15th Finance Commission. Court recommendations and the need for timely elections further prompted the government to fast-track the process.
