The Telangana government has sanctioned ₹1,108.27 crore for the comprehensive development of the Omkareshwara Swamy Temple complex on the banks of the Musi River at Manchirevula. Of the total allocation, ₹948.65 crore has been earmarked for development of the temple complex, while ₹159.62 crore has been approved for constructing a six-lane road connecting the temple with the surrounding areas.

The government issued administrative approvals through G.O.Rt.No.928, marking a major step towards developing the temple and its surrounding infrastructure. The proposed works will include the construction of Rajagopurams, a Yagashala and a Pushkarini, besides other facilities intended to improve convenience for devotees visiting the temple.

The project is also aimed at developing the area around the temple as a prominent spiritual and tourism destination. The initiative is being taken in coordination with the broader plans for the development and rejuvenation of the Musi riverfront.

As part of the connectivity infrastructure, authorities will construct a 30-metre (100-foot) wide six-lane road between Istana Villas and Keerthi Westwind Villas. The proposed road will cover around 2.50 kilometres and provide improved access to the Greyhounds and Young India Police School areas.

The road will also strengthen connectivity between the temple complex and the Musi Riverfront road network, making access easier for devotees and visitors. For technical supervision and coordination of the project, the government has constituted a committee headed by the R&B Engineer-in-Chief as Chairman and the Public Health Engineer-in-Chief as Co-Chairman.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has outlined an ambitious vision to revive the Musi River and transform its banks into a major spiritual and tourism destination. As part of the Musi rejuvenation initiative, he announced on March 28 plans to develop grand religious structures representing a temple, mosque, church and gurdwara.

A foundation stone was laid at Manchirevula for the reconstruction of the Omkareshwara and Machileshwara temples. The proposed temple complex will come up across nearly eight acres and is planned along the architectural lines of the historic Ramappa Temple.

A 100-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva is also proposed along the riverbank. The government has stated that its larger objective is to develop the Musi riverfront as ‘Dakshina Kashi’, creating a distinctive spiritual and tourism identity for Telangana.
