Telangana has stepped up its farmer-focused governance push with the launch of Rythu Varotsavalu in Tandur, an outreach initiative aimed at connecting policy directly with farmers. The week-long programme was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao as part of the state’s administrative drive, bringing together awareness campaigns, exhibitions, and farmer consultations across the district until May 9. The event reflects a broader attempt to translate government schemes into visible, ground-level impact while strengthening engagement with the farming community.

At the core of the state’s agricultural strategy is a strong emphasis on direct financial support , with nearly ₹1.40 lakh crore already transferred into farmers’ accounts through various schemes. Flagship initiatives like Rythu Bandhu provide seasonal investment assistance, while Rythu Bima offers crucial life insurance coverage, helping rural families manage risk and reduce dependence on informal borrowing. Officials say this model has improved liquidity in the farm sector and created a more stable financial environment for cultivators.

Alongside welfare measures, the government is investing in irrigation and infrastructure to ensure long-term productivity. A major highlight is the ₹90 crore allocation for the Kottapalli project , backed by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, which is expected to improve water access in the Tandur region. This reflects a strategy that combines financial aid with resource development, ensuring that gains in agriculture are sustainable and not just short-term.

The government is also encouraging a shift toward more sustainable farming practices. The minister urged farmers to adopt low-cost, high-yield farming methods , reduce excessive chemical usage, and focus on organic farming and natural farming techniques to protect soil fertility. Experts highlighted that maintaining soil health is essential for long-term productivity and food safety, with scientists expected to play a key role in guiding farmers through improved agricultural practices.

Telangana’s agricultural sector continues to show steady growth, particularly in maize production, which stands between 40,000 and 50,000 quintals , placing the state among leading producers. The government’s grain procurement efforts have also helped ensure price stability, addressing a major concern for farmers. To modernise access to services, the minister launched the TG Online App , aimed at improving delivery of information, schemes, and support systems directly to farmers.

Local leadership also used the platform to outline future priorities. Tandur MLA B. Manohar Reddy emphasised that agriculture should be seen as a celebration rather than a burden, highlighting ₹14,000 crore allocated for market development. He also proposed establishing an oil palm industry presence and a dedicated Red Gram (Kandi) Board in the region to strengthen crop-specific value chains.

District Collector Deepak Tiwari noted that the festival is designed as a participatory platform, enabling farmers to share feedback and suggestions directly with officials. This approach signals a shift toward more inclusive governance, where policymaking is increasingly shaped by grassroots inputs. Overall, the initiative reflects Telangana’s evolving agricultural model one that integrates welfare, infrastructure, sustainability, and technology to drive long-term transformation in the rural economy.
