Telangana Pushes Private Partnerships To Accelerate Tourism Projects: Minister Jupally Krishna Rao

Telangana is aiming to position itself as an international tourism destination by transforming the sector into a major driver of economic growth, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said on Saturday.

Addressing the “Destination Telangana – Road Ahead” tourism conclave held at the NITHM campus in Gachibowli , the minister said the state government is committed to extending full support for tourism development and will fast-track projects through private sector participation . The event marked the conclusion of the state’s tourism week celebrations conducted as part of the government’s 99 Days Public Governance – Progress Plan initiative.

Krishna Rao said the government has introduced a new tourism policy designed to attract investments and encourage entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in the sector. He invited industrialists and tourism developers to come forward with viable proposals and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), assuring them that approvals and incentives would be cleared swiftly under the state’s Ease of Doing Business framework.

The minister also announced that several underutilised government-owned properties could be offered on long-term lease for tourism-related projects. He said the government would soon issue Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the development of selected tourist destinations and would bear the costs related to project designs and feasibility estimates for shortlisted proposals.

Highlighting the infrastructure gaps at several tourist spots, Krishna Rao noted that even basic facilities such as drinking water, restrooms and accommodation are missing in some locations. To address this, he encouraged private investors to develop modern tourism amenities including mobile glass houses and canvas tent accommodations .

Calling tourism a sector that goes far beyond recreation, the minister said it has the potential to significantly strengthen the state economy. He observed that growth in tourism would benefit multiple allied industries while creating large-scale employment and self-employment opportunities for youth.

Krishna Rao further stated that the government has already begun focusing on tourism attractions such as the proposed ropeway project at Bhongir Fort , which is expected to enhance visitor experience and boost regional tourism.

The conclave was attended by Tourism Department Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad , TGTDC representative Patul Ramesh Reddy , and several prominent industrialists and tourism stakeholders.
