Telangana private colleges bandh on November 03

Private professional colleges across Telangana are set to shut down from Monday, November 3, 2025, following a call for bandh by the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Institutions (FATHI) and other management bodies. The strike is in protest against the state government’s failure to release pending fee reimbursement dues, resulting in a holiday for students.

Reason for the Bandh

The college managements allege that the state government has not cleared outstanding dues running into several thousand crores under the fee reimbursement scheme. They demand the immediate release of at least ₹900 crore, warning of an indefinite shutdown if the issue remains unresolved.

Impact on Students

Students of private engineering, degree, pharmacy, management, and other professional colleges will have a holiday on November 3, as classes will not be conducted. The bandh may also disrupt examination schedules, with some colleges requesting universities to postpone exams.

Student organizations have expressed support for the strike, stating that delays in the government’s reimbursement process have adversely affected both students and institutions.

Government Response

According to college managements, the government has released only a partial payment of around ₹300 crore, which they claim is insufficient. If the demands are not met soon, associations plan to intensify the agitation with a mass protest by over one lakh staff on November 6 and a large student rally involving nearly ten lakh students later in the month.

What Remains Open

The bandh applies only to private colleges, including engineering, MBA, pharmacy, B.Ed, and nursing institutions. Government colleges and schools will remain open as usual.

What Students Should Know

Students are advised not to attend college on November 3, as most private institutions will remain closed. They should check official notifications from their respective colleges or universities regarding postponed classes or exams.

The November 3 bandh highlights the ongoing tension between private colleges and the Telangana government over unpaid fee reimbursements. While it means a temporary break for students, the issue threatens to cause long-term academic disruptions if not addressed swiftly.
