Telangana prepares for grand Godavari Pushkaralu 2027

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has set the stage for transforming the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu into a magnificent event, drawing parallels to the Kumbh Mela of North India. In a high-level review meeting held at the Command and Control Center, he directed officials to initiate comprehensive preparations to ensure the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu becomes a landmark cultural and spiritual gathering.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for permanent infrastructure along the 560 km stretch of the Godavari River in Telangana, where it enters from Maharashtra. Officials have identified the requirement for approximately 74 ghats to accommodate the expected influx of devotees. Key temples such as Dharmapuri and Kaleshwaram, located along the riverbank from Basara to Bhadrachalam, are to be developed as priority areas. “We must ensure that these sacred sites are ready to welcome lakhs of devotees with world-class facilities,” Reddy stated.

The planning includes not only the development of temples but also the construction of permanent Pushkar ghats. The Chief Minister instructed that areas suitable for Pushkar baths be enhanced, with a focus on infrastructure like roads, traffic management, vehicle parking, drinking water, and residential facilities. “Even if 2 lakh devotees visit on a single day, there should be no inconvenience,” he added, underscoring the scale of the event. To manage the logistics, Reddy suggested appointing consultants with experience in organizing large-scale religious events, including the Maha Kumbh Mela. These experts will help prepare detailed project reports after assessing the major temples along the Godavari riverbank. The designs for temple development will be tailored to local conditions, ensuring both functionality and cultural relevance.

Funding and coordination are critical components of the plan. The Chief Minister advised leveraging central government schemes such as Swachh Bharat and Jal Jeevan Mission to support the infrastructure development. “We must identify works that align with these schemes and secure the necessary permissions,” he said. A special package from the central government is also being sought to address the anticipated influx of devotees, positioning the Godavari Pushkaralu as a South Indian Kumbh Mela.

The meeting saw the participation of Minister @iamkondasurekha, advisor @Vemnarenderredy, and senior officials, reflecting a collaborative approach across departments like Tourism, Water Resources, and Endowments. The Chief Minister’s vision is to not only facilitate a smooth spiritual experience for devotees but also to boost the cultural and economic prospects of the region. With the event scheduled to commence on July 23, 2027, the state has approximately two years to implement these plans. The focus on permanent facilities aims to leave a lasting legacy, benefiting future generations and enhancing Telangana’s reputation as a hub for spiritual tourism.

As preparations gain momentum, the Godavari Pushkaralu 2027 promises to be a grand celebration of faith, culture, and community, drawing devotees from across India and beyond.
