Telangana Police Constable Booked Over Objectionable Content Targeting Kavitha

A police constable has been booked for allegedly posting derogatory remarks and objectionable content against Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on social media. The constable had already been suspended by the Cyberabad Police Commissioner over the incident.

Cyberabad Police said on Wednesday that they received a complaint alleging that constable K. Anil had posted abusive and objectionable comments targeting Kavitha on social media platforms. Acting on the complaint, the department suspended him under the applicable Civil Services Conduct Rules, officials said.

Police stated that the suspension was ordered immediately after the allegations came to their notice. A preliminary inquiry is being conducted, and further departmental proceedings will follow once the Hyderabad Police Commissioner submits an initial investigation report. Authorities said appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against the constable in accordance with service rules.

The matter has also taken a criminal law route. A case was registered against Anil at the Hyderabad Cyber Crimes Police Station on September 6 under Sections 75 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. These provisions were invoked in connection with the alleged publication of objectionable material online.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that the alleged posts were made using the constable’s personal mobile phone. Investigators subsequently seized the device and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for detailed examination.

The forensic analysis is expected to help investigators establish the origin and nature of the content and determine whether any additional evidence is stored on the device. Police said further legal action would be taken after the examination of the phone and assessment of the investigation findings.

The suspension order accused Anil of serious negligence in the discharge of his duties, dereliction of responsibility and grave indiscipline. Officials stressed that members of the police force are expected to maintain discipline and uphold the standards applicable to government employees.

The department also made it clear that such conduct will not be tolerated, signalling that disciplinary action could follow when personnel are found violating service rules through their conduct on social media.
