Telangana Plans Major Infrastructure Push for 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu

The Telangana government has intensified preparations for the Godavari Pushkaralu, scheduled from June 26 to July 7, 2027, with a focus on providing lakhs of devotees with safe, comfortable and well-organised facilities during the major spiritual event.

A high-level meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee was held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Minister D. Sridhar Babu. Ministers Konda Surekha, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponnam Prabhakar, Vivek Venkataswamy, Adluri Laxman Kumar and Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), along with senior officials, reviewed the preparations.

The government plans to develop 67 Pushkaralu centres across eight districts along the Godavari Nizamabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem. A three-tier development plan involving around Rs 1,000 crore is being taken up through various departments.

Sridhar Babu said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy considers the Godavari Pushkaralu a prestigious event and wants preparations monitored closely. A dedicated dashboard will be developed to track the progress of works, with virtual reviews to be held whenever necessary. Requests for additional funds from public representatives will also be discussed with the Chief Minister.

Endowments Minister Konda Surekha directed officials to showcase the historical and spiritual significance of pilgrimage centres through welcome arches, decorations, information boards and visual displays. She also stressed controlling plastic use and preventing plastic waste from entering the Godavari.

With a large influx of devotees expected, officials were asked to strengthen traffic management, security, sanitation, drinking water, roads, electricity and medical facilities. Separate arrangements, including barricades and bathing ghats, will be made for VIPs and VVIPs. Police officials said crowd-control measures would incorporate lessons from previous stampede incidents.

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy called for publicity campaigns to begin early, while Tummala Nageswara Rao stressed completing arrangements in advance at major pilgrimage centres such as Bhadrachalam and Dharmapuri.

Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to provide temporary bus shelters, bus stations, passenger holding areas and parking facilities. Seethakka emphasised timely completion of roads, toilets, drinking water and sanitation infrastructure.

The government has instructed all departments to complete works within the prescribed deadlines and with quality standards, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for devotees during the Godavari Pushkaralu.
