Telangana Plans District-Level Training to Boost Army Recruitment

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called for a focused effort to help more young people from the state qualify for Indian Army recruitment, proposing specialised training programmes at selected district headquarters.

Revanth Reddy made the suggestion during a meeting with Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army’s Southern Command, at the Bodhi Pavilion in MCR HRD on Wednesday. Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior Army officials were also present.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to take recruitment preparation beyond major cities and establish training facilities in districts where there is strong interest among aspiring candidates. Such programmes, he said, would allow Telangana youth to prepare well in advance for Army recruitment drives held across the country.

Responding to the proposal, Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar expressed the Army's willingness to facilitate training centres at district headquarters. The initiative is expected to make structured preparation more accessible to young aspirants from both rural and urban areas, particularly those who may otherwise have limited access to specialised guidance.

The discussions also covered the Army's role in disaster response in Telangana. Revanth Reddy appreciated the force's contribution during natural calamities and urged it to strengthen its involvement in flood situations, including rescue operations, evacuation and rehabilitation efforts.

Lt Gen Pushkar assured the Chief Minister that local Army authorities would be instructed to respond more proactively whenever floods or other disasters occur in the state.

The meeting also touched upon Hyderabad's Musi River rejuvenation project. Lt Gen Pushkar appreciated the state government's efforts to revive the river, noting the importance of cleaning the Musi to reduce pollution and protect Hyderabad's environment and heritage.

Major General N. Srinivasa Rao, General Officer Commanding of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Area, along with other senior Army officers, attended the meeting.
