
Telangana Municipalities Act 2026: New Rules, New Governance Landscape
The Telangana Municipalities (Third Amendment) Act–2026 has been brought into force by the state government. Accordingly, the Municipal Administration Department issued G.O. No. 13. The notification stated that, as per the Governor’s directions, the Act has come into effect across the state from January 13, 2026 .
The government revealed that the Telangana Governor gave assent to the Act on January 11, 2026 , and it was published in the Telangana Extraordinary Gazette on the same day. Subsequently, a special notification was issued announcing the date on which the Act would come into effect.
The Third Amendment Act introduces changes to the Telangana Municipalities Act–2019 . As part of this, Serial Number 86 under Nalgonda in Schedule–I has been removed. At the same time, a new Serial Number 16 has been added to Schedule–II , registering Nalgonda – Nalgonda – 48 .
Officials stated that these changes are likely to affect aspects related to municipal administration, governance structure, and the conduct of elections .
The government also confirmed that the full details of the Act have been included in the Telangana Gazette .
