Telangana Moves Towards RTI-Style Transparency with New Initiatives

Telangana is moving towards a transparent , citizen-centric governance model as Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a key meeting with noted social activist Nikhil Dey , a prominent figure linked to India’s RTI movement . The interaction highlighted a growing alignment between policy leadership and grassroots expertise, with Dey appreciating the state’s efforts to strengthen public accountability and inclusive administration.

A major focus of the discussion was the expansion of the Praja Vani grievance redressal system to the Revenue Division level , a step aimed at improving accessibility and ensuring quicker resolution of complaints at the local level. This decentralised approach is expected to reduce bureaucratic delays and bring governance closer to citizens, especially in rural and semi-urban regions. Officials have been directed to prepare an implementation plan to make this system more effective and responsive.

The meeting also explored the creation of a Praja Suchana Portal , inspired by Rajasthan’s Jan Soochna Portal , which is widely recognised for promoting proactive transparency. The proposed platform will consolidate information on government schemes, beneficiaries, and services into a single digital interface, enabling citizens to access data without filing formal requests. By shifting towards open data systems , the government aims to enhance transparency, improve service delivery, and build public trust.

In addition, the proposed Gig Workers Bill received appreciation for its potential to become a landmark legislation addressing the needs of platform-based workers. With the gig economy expanding rapidly, the bill seeks to provide structured welfare mechanisms and greater protection for workers who often fall outside traditional labour laws.

With senior officials involved in the discussions, Telangana’s approach reflects a broader push towards digital governance , decentralisation, and accountability. The success of these initiatives, however, will depend on effective implementation at the grassroots level and the ability to ensure that these reforms translate into real benefits for citizens.
