Telangana Minister Ponnam urges AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan to apologize to Telangana people

Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar criticized Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for remarks he made about Telangana, saying they were disrespectful and could create unnecessary tension between the two states.

Speaking on the matter, Minister Ponnam highlighted that during the recent floods in Telangana, which caused widespread damage and hardship, people never blamed Andhra Pradesh, viewing the situation as a natural disaster. However, Pawan Kalyan’s comment that coconut trees drying up in Konaseema was due to “Telangana’s curse” was both insensitive and inappropriate, the minister said.

He emphasized that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh should grow together like siblings, and statements that create divisions among people are unfortunate - especially at a time when both states are politically significant for the BJP alliance. He urged the Telangana BJP leadership to respond to the remarks and called on the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister to address the issue.

Minister Ponnam further stated that while parts of Telangana, such as Husnabad, were affected by the cyclone, they never blamed Andhra Pradesh. Commenting that Telangana’s “curse” was responsible for damage in Andhra, he said, was an insult to the people of his state. He demanded that Pawan Kalyan immediately retract his remarks and apologize to Telangana residents, and advised that such divisive comments should be avoided in the future.
