Telangana launches mobile app ahead of Panchayat elections
The Telangana State Election Commission on Thursday launched a mobile app to assist voters ahead of the upcoming rural panchayat elections in December. Named “Te-poll Mobile App”, it allows voters to download their voter slips and polling station details. The app also enables citizens to register complaints related to the elections and track the progress of their grievances. It is now available on the Google Play Store.
The State Election Commission had announced a three-phase schedule for the panchayat elections on November 25. Voting will take place on December 11, 14, and 17 across the state. A total of 12,728 Sarpanch seats and 1,12,242 ward member seats are up for election. Around 16.6 million rural voters are expected to exercise their franchise.
Polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., with counting beginning at 2 p.m. on the same day, and results will be declared immediately afterward.
Although these elections are non-partisan - candidates do not contest under party symbols - political analysts are closely watching them. Following the recent Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, the elections are being seen as a measure of the strength of major parties such as Congress, BJP, and BRS in rural Telangana.
