Telangana Launches First Fully Digital Census Drive Across The State

As part of the nationwide population enumeration, the ‘Census-2027’ self-enumeration process was formally launched in Telangana on Sunday. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the programme at Lok Bhavan by registering his details through the online portal. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy also registered their details online, taking part in the self-enumeration process.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said the Census is a crucial exercise that reflects the country’s overall profile and the socio-economic conditions of its people. He described it as the foundation for planned development, good governance, and equitable distribution of resources . Accurate data, he noted, is essential for framing effective policies in sectors such as education, healthcare, employment, and housing . This is the first Census after the formation of Telangana , and the data collected will be vital for the State’s future development, he emphasised.

After completing his registration, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urged citizens to actively participate in the process . Officials briefed him on the methodology and significance of self-enumeration. He stated that public participation is key to designing effective development plans.

Addressing a press conference, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy said that every data point is crucial in achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ under Prime Minister Narendra Modi . He noted that the use of modern digital technology in this Census would enhance transparency and speed . He called upon citizens to voluntarily come forward and provide accurate information to ensure welfare schemes reach all eligible beneficiaries.

The self-enumeration process in Telangana will be conducted from April 26 to May 10 . This will be followed by the house-listing phase from May 11 to June 9 . Notably, the Census is being conducted entirely in digital mode , allowing households to conveniently register their details online. This marks India’s first fully digital Census , aimed at improving accuracy, transparency, and efficiency .

The Governor and the Chief Minister appealed to all residents of Telangana to make use of the self-enumeration facility and extend full cooperation by providing accurate information to census officials. Census Director Bharati Holikeri , GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan , and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
