Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday said the state government would soon allocate funds to the various caste corporations recently established for the welfare and upliftment of backward classes in the state.

The minister said the government would not stop at merely releasing funds, but would also issue clear guidelines on how the allocations should be utilised and how beneficiaries should be selected.

Describing the creation of separate corporations for several backward communities as a historic decision , he said the Congress government had taken steps on a record scale after assuming office. According to him, the government had prepared plans to ensure that every community receives recognition and that these corporations function under government supervision for their social and economic development .

He said the corporations would work with dedication for the welfare of their respective communities.

Speaking at a programme held in Hyderabad where Dongari Venkateshwarlu assumed charge as chairman of the ‘Perika’ caste corporation, Prabhakar said the newly formed bodies would not remain merely symbolic institutions, but would implement special welfare schemes at the grassroots level .

The minister said programmes would be designed according to the specific needs of each community.

He further stated that official orders detailing the responsibilities of the corporations and the utilisation of funds would be issued shortly. The orders, he said, would clearly define the powers and functions of corporation chairpersons and members, thereby ensuring greater transparency and preventing misuse of funds.

The government believes this mechanism would ensure that benefits directly reach eligible poor beneficiaries, he added.

On the occasion, the minister also appreciated the social service activities undertaken by members of the Perika community. He particularly praised their efforts in running a hostel for students in Hyderabad for the past 50 years , describing their contribution towards educational development as exemplary.

Prabhakar assured that the government would extend full support to community organisations undertaking such service-oriented initiatives.
