In a major relief for unemployed youth, the Telangana government has decided to extend the upper age limit for direct recruitment in government departments, increasing it from 34 years to 44 years . The decision is expected to benefit thousands of aspirants who were on the verge of losing eligibility for state government jobs.

The government issued fresh orders after receiving multiple representations from unemployed associations and job seekers seeking relaxation in age criteria. Officials said the move was taken after a detailed review of the requests and the current recruitment situation in the state.

The new age relaxation will remain in force for one year from the date of issuance of the order and will apply to all recruitment notifications released during this period. The orders were issued under provisions of Article 309 of the Constitution , following approval from the Governor.

However, the relaxation will not be applicable to uniformed services such as the Police, Excise, Fire Services, Forest, and Prisons departments , where physical fitness standards and special service conditions are mandatory.

The revised rule will be implemented by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) along with other state recruitment agencies. The extension comes at a crucial time, as several recruitment notifications are expected to be released in the coming months across various departments.

The government had earlier granted a similar extension for two years. After that period ended, concerns grew among aspirants who had crossed the previous age limit due to delays in recruitment processes. With the latest decision, many candidates who feared losing their final opportunity to secure a government job have now received renewed hope.

The move is also being seen as an attempt to address long-standing concerns over delayed recruitments and rising unemployment among educated youth in Telangana.
