Telangana Govt Plans New Link Roads to Decongest Hyderabad Traffic
With Hyderabad witnessing a steady surge in vehicle numbers , the Telangana government has begun focusing on long-term infrastructure measures to address the city’s mounting traffic congestion . Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prepare immediate plans for developing new link roads across key corridors to reduce pressure on major arterial routes and improve traffic flow.
The instructions were issued during a high-level review meeting on road infrastructure , conducted as part of the state’s broader Vision-2047 development strategy . During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed that strengthening the road network across Telangana is essential to support economic growth, improve mobility, and ensure faster connectivity between the capital and other regions of the state.
Revanth Reddy said the government aims to create a road system that allows people to travel from Hyderabad to any part of the state within a predictable timeframe . To achieve this, officials were asked to identify missing connectivity points and develop link roads that can provide alternate routes, reduce bottlenecks, and ease congestion on heavily used roads.
The Chief Minister also suggested examining the feasibility of building ring roads around district headquarters to prevent future traffic problems as urban centers expand. These proposed ring roads would be connected with national highways , creating smoother inter-district connectivity and improving access between rural areas and major cities.
Officials noted that Hyderabad already has large infrastructure projects such as the Outer Ring Road , which was built to streamline movement around the city, while the proposed Regional Ring Road is expected to further strengthen regional connectivity. The development of additional link roads within the city is intended to complement these major highway networks by improving last-mile connectivity and reducing traffic load on key junctions.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of teaching hospitals and other major healthcare facilities being constructed across the state. He instructed officials to accelerate construction work so that these institutions can begin serving people as early as possible.
If implemented effectively, the proposed road expansion plans and supporting infrastructure projects are expected to significantly improve transportation in Hyderabad and district towns , reduce travel time, and create a more efficient statewide mobility network .
The meeting was attended by Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy along with senior officials from the concerned departments.
