Telangana Governor Calls for Immediate Passage of Women’s Reservation Bill

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has called for the immediate passage and implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, aimed at ensuring adequate representation for women in legislative bodies. Speaking to the media in Delhi on Saturday, he said women have always been at the forefront of Indian politics.

The Governor emphasised that the bill is crucial for safeguarding women’s rights and dignity . “Everyone talks about women’s reservation, but no one has had the courage to implement it. Political parties are not allocating enough seats to women. Only when this bill is passed will they receive proper respect and representation,” he stated.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule , the Governor paid tribute and recalled the contributions of Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule towards women’s education. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi , stating that he is continuing their legacy and remains committed to women’s empowerment. The Governor described the Prime Minister’s initiatives for women’s dignity and empowerment as historic .

Highlighting the role of women in Indian politics, Shukla noted that from Sarojini Naidu to Indira Gandhi , women have consistently played a significant role. He stressed that women, who stood shoulder to shoulder with men during the freedom struggle, must be given adequate representation in legislatures .

Responding to the Women’s Reservation Bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it reflects the government’s commitment to ‘Nari Shakti’ . He added that increasing women’s representation in legislatures would lead to a more balanced and inclusive governance system and strengthen the country’s democratic framework.

As discussions on the bill continue in Parliament, the Bharatiya Janata Party is raising awareness nationwide through programmes like “Mahila Samvad” , engaging directly with women in both urban and rural areas to explain the benefits of the legislation and gather grassroots feedback.

Analysts believe that once passed, the Women’s Reservation Bill will mark a new chapter in India’s political history .
