Telangana government to build G+3 Indiramma homes for urban poor: Minister Ponguleti
Telangana is taking a major step to make housing dreams a reality for the urban poor. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced in the Assembly that the government will construct G+3 (four-storey) Indiramma homes for economically weaker sections across all major towns, including areas under the GHMC.
The minister described the initiative as a long-term solution to the housing problems faced by urban poor families. He also said that certain rules under the pilot Indiramma housing projects have been relaxed. Previously, homes were required to be between 400 and 600 square feet, but now, construction will allow more flexibility to meet the needs of families of different sizes, ensuring more comfortable living spaces.
These new homes will be built on government-owned land in urban areas, providing affordable housing to those who need it most. Minister Ponguleti also criticized past governments for failing to deliver on promises. He highlighted that even in Vasalamarri village - adopted by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao - homes were not fully constructed as promised.
He emphasized that the current government is moving beyond promises and taking concrete action. Following instructions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Indiramma homes have now been completed in Vasalamarri and handed over to the poor. The minister described this as a reflection of the government’s genuine commitment to its citizens.
“Our goal is to provide dignified housing for all families, both in urban and rural areas. The Indiramma housing scheme will bring hope and light into the lives of thousands of families,” Minister Ponguleti said.
